The 130-meter long, arch shaped work is designated Historical Monument; it has undergone a restoration, for which a lighting design project has been required. It is in this context that Concepto has worked with the Ponsot ACMH office.
The ‘Pont Vieux’ (Old-Bridge) is at the center of an exceptional nighttime landscape setting: at the foot of a cliff and its fortifications, bordering woods and the city-center of Terrasson-Villedieu in the Dordogne region. Because the bridge is quite simple in its stone-setting and without moldings, we have chosen to enliven the materiality through a play of light beams. A grazing light highlights the texture of the stone on the vertical axis.
Crossed and inclined beams of light create a yellow, white and amber light trail on the surface, whose vibration can be felt even from afar, and whose detail becomes legible from close-up.
The lighting of the face of the bridge reveals through contrast and reflects the varied shape of the arches, which constitutes the entire historical interest of the bridge, because each arch was built at a different time period.
