Chartres, ‘Heart of the City’ City Center, France

The ‘Heart of the City’ operation consisted in restructuring a series of boulevards surrounding the ‘Place des Epars’ along 2 km in the heart of the city center of Chartres. A total reorganization of public spaces allowed better space sharing, with the creation of an underground parking lot underneath the boulevards, which freed up parking space above ground that was turned into a wide green promenade.

The nighttime treatment of the ‘Heart of the City’ gives back all its width and depth to city planning. It composes a strong image for the new ‘Place des Epars’, freeing up space to allow for daytime and nighttime events.
Lateral landmarks of interest and equipment are delicately showcased to transform the nighttime image of the doors to the city center.

Each illumination unfolds into a sustainable, understated lighting scene and a more colorful festive scene, for which on and off cycles were decided upon in agreement with the contracting owner.
